Plants at the workplace? Why yes, and why yes, definitely!

Plants were here before, they are here with us and there is little to no reason they shouldn't be with us everywhere - even at the workplace.

Plants raise the aesthetics of the office

While open spaces are the most common  type of workplace they run into the risk of becoming too uniform and sterile. One of the positives of office plants is that they look good and more so, make the whole place look good. Work in visually stimulating environments helps employees to better work performance and outcomes.

They lower the stress

Time spent in nature is important for our mental health but its not always attainable with working hours today. Including plants in your working environment is one of the ways to retain a contact with nature even at work. Studies show that everyday interaction with plants helps to lower mental and physiological stress.

They create more quiet surroundings

Acoustics in open spaces can lead to unnecessary loudness and lack of privacy for conversations. Plants help to absorb redundant sounds and they can also help when creating “zones” for employees to retreat to quieter parts of the office if they need to concentrate.

They raise productivity

Many studies have shown that plants at the workplace can have a positive effect on productivity. A  Human Space report from 2015 concluded on 7600 employees in 16 countries found out that almost two thirds (58 %) have no life plants at their workplace. Those who had had 15 % higher 

Comfort a 6 % higher productivity than those without.

They also help against diseases

Plants help clean the air which is often stale at certain workplaces. They erase toxins that have a negative impact on employees lowering their disability rates throughout the year. Sufficiently green offices lead to 26 % higher cognitive abilities and 30 % lower absences in connection to disease.
